Hundreds turn out for The Energy Corridor District’s 2nd Annual Tree Lighting celebration
About 1,500 people joined The Energy Corridor District to light a 50-foot tree in a large celebration presented by ConocoPhillips.
Members of the business community and residents rang in the holiday season at the event hosted by Emmy Award-winning news reporter, Miya Shay of KTRK-13.
The celebration at the Hyatt Regency Houston West included an announcement of the six nonprofits awarded a total of $30,000 as part of the District’s 12 Days of Christmas donations. The 2022 recipients are: Girls on the Run Houston, the Outreach Center of West Houston, Family Point Resources, the Houston Fire Department’s Operation Stocking Stuffer, Memorial Assistance Ministries and Literacy Now.
The event also featured live music by Thomas Cokinos, the Westside High School choir and the Carlos Lopez Orchestra and a Candy Cane Lane Nutcracker Market sponsored by District employer Kiewit. The 50-foot tree is powered by a 100% renewable electricity plan from Shell Energy.
“This year’s event was expanded to bring our business community and all Houstonians together in a celebratory and giving environment. As the kickoff to the District’s 12 Days of Christmas programming, this event allows us to showcase the Energy Corridor to all of Houston,” The Energy Corridor District Executive Director Elijah J. Williams said.
As part of the 12 Days of Christmas program, The District, with generous support from ConocoPhillips, also provide meals to first responders, health care workers and law enforcement officers as a gesture of gratitude for their service to the community.
