Hurricane Season is Here – Stay Prepared
Hurricane season runs through November 30, and now is the time to make sure you, your family, and your business are prepared.
The Energy Corridor District encourages all residents, businesses, and property owners to have a plan in place. Make sure your emergency kits are stocked, important documents are secure, and evacuation routes are known.
The best way to stay safe during hurricane season is to be ready before a storm hits. Here are a few tips to get started:
- Learn about the disaster plans at your workplace, your child’s school/daycare, and any other places your family spends time.
- Talk with your family about where to meet if you can’t return home.
- Know the emergency plans at work, school, and daycare.
- Plan ahead for pets and anyone with medical or mobility needs.
- Check your flood insurance and keep your coverage current.
- Know how to turn off your power at the main breaker.
- Build a disaster supply kit (use this checklist from H-GAC).
- Stay informed by following local officials and weather alerts.
Below are additional resources that can help guide you and your family’s response and actions during a hurricane.
A little preparation now can make a big difference later. Make your plan, share it, and practice it.
