More than 3,200 people came out to enjoy EnergyFest last weekend on a beautiful, 70-degree day in Houston. After Friday’s storms, the west Houston community was eager to get outside and enjoy an afternoon of live music, family activities, food trucks, local businesses, and live art installations.
Enjoy the recap video below. More photos from the event will be posted soon on our social media channels and on the EnergyFest website.

Join Bike to Work Day in Energy Corridor
BikeHouston is hosting its annual Bike to Work event in the Energy Corridor District on Thursday, May 14th. Cyclists are invited to meet at Terry Hershey Park’s north gazebo, 15200 Memorial Drive, at 7:30 a.m.
It’s the annual gathering for adventurous commuters who like to avoid the traffic and soak up the great outdoors on their way to work. According to event organizer Bryan Dotson, there are several different trail routes that feed into the Energy Corridor. Ride captains will lead cyclists to and through those trails, en route to Terry Hershey Park. Or you can ride on your own and meet up with other cyclists at the gazebo.
There are a host of cycling resources on the Energy Corridor’s website and you can register to join a specific trail route on Bike to Work day.
If you are commute-curious and would like to know more about riding a bike to work, stop by and meet folks who can give you tips on routes and other best practices. And if you don’t have a bike, but would like to give cycling a try, Dotson has a loaner bike and all the accessories available to you.
Energy Corridor District is providing breakfast for all cyclists.

Sylvan Learning Center to Host Grand Opening
Sylvan Learning Center — a leading provider of personalized tutoring for children in Kindergarten through 12th grade — is opening in the Energy Corridor District at 1531 Eldridge Parkway.
Owner Ana Teodoro comes from a family of educators and has always wanted to own her own business where she could help children. Ana has a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and years of classroom experience. She will serve as Assistant Principal at Sylvan Learning Center. Her husband and co-owner, Pedro, stepped away from a career in accounting to join Ana in opening the local tutoring center and serve as the center director. Together, they are committed to creating a place where families can find support, where the stress of school can feel more manageable, and where students can build confidence and discover their full potential.
Sylvan offers personalized tutoring to students in a variety of subjects, including math, reading, sciences, and foreign languages. They also offer homework help, test prep and study skills help. One-on-one tutoring is available onsite and online.
“As summer approaches, we’re focused on helping students avoid the ‘summer slide’ while keeping the learning fun, engaging and confidence-building,” said Pedro. Sylvan is offering complimentary assessments leading up to their grand opening. Teachers, school administrators and area families are invited to check out the newest Energy Corridor business and meet Pedro and Ana!
