The Watt Apartments Brings Sophisticated, High-Rise Living to Energy Corridor
A new residential option is bringing high-rise living to Houston's Energy Corridor. The Watt Apartments, located at 550 Westlake Park Blvd., opened last fall after a two-year transformation converted a former BP and ConocoPhillips office building into a 311-unit apartment community.
The 20-story property offers studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes with floor-to-ceiling windows, smart-home technology and upscale finishes. Residents also enjoy amenities including a rooftop pool overlooking Terry Hershey Park, coworking spaces, a fitness center, yoga studio, pet spa and resident lounges.
Community Manager Natalie Weldon said many residents are business professionals who appreciate the convenience of living near work while avoiding downtown traffic. "It's quieter here," she said. "Our residents enjoy the amenities and the lifestyle, without the hustle and bustle of downtown."
Energy Corridor President Bryan Brown said The Watt adds a new upscale housing option for employees who want to live close to where they work while helping diversify the District's residential offerings.

Anna Prilepskaia greets both two-legged and four-legged guests at Our Furry Darlings, her newly-opened pet grooming business at 840 N. Eldridge Parkway.
The clean, modern facility features a bulletin board filled with photos of freshly groomed clients. Prilepskaia keeps even more photos on her phone, including images of happy dogs eagerly waiting at the door for their owners to return. “I’m happy when I see a happy owner,” she said.
Our Furry Darlings offers full and mini grooming services, nail trimming, ear and teeth cleaning, and doggy day care. Prilepskaia takes pride in providing pets with a safe, calm and loving environment.
“My love of animals inspired me to open this salon,” she said. “I truly enjoy caring for pets and spending time with them.”
Prilepskaia moved to the United States from Russia and learned her craft in Israel.
Although she is still mastering English, she communicates well with her clients — and, like Dr. Doolittle, has no trouble communicating with her animal guests.
Dogs generally take grooming in stride, while cats can be more nervous. She uses a special waterless shampoo for cats that helps minimize hairballs. Her most unusual client so far was a bunny that needed only a good brushing.

Outreach Center Connects West Houston
A single building in West Houston is making a big impact by bringing together organizations that serve children, families and individuals in need.
The Outreach Center of West Houston is home to 12 organizations offering everything from after-school programs and substance abuse recovery services to mentoring, parenting support and CPR training. The center also hosts churches, community meetings and recovery groups while connecting residents to thousands of additional resources through its online referral network.
Located at 725 Batewsood Drive, the Outreach Center is located just outside the Energy Corridor District's boundaries, but its impact reaches deep into the community by serving residents, schools and families throughout West Houston.
Executive Director Jorge Quiñones describes the center as "a hub that connects the two worlds," bringing together people with resources and those in need.
The property also features a community garden which produces seasonal vegetables for local families. Rainwater harvesting and composting systems support the garden, while a commercial backup generator is being installed to allow the center to serve as a community respite site during emergencies.
Energy Corridor Staff Works Remotely During Office Remodeling
