Since its devastating path through the Caribbean and Mexican Yucatan Peninsula, the District has been keeping an eye on Hurricane Beryl. While many are still without power, we hope that you are each well and recovering from the storm.
Our Landscape & Maintenance contractor, Silversand Services, was on standby and ready to respond once the storm passed the Houston metro area. Crews began assessing post-storm damage in the District this morning and found numerous downed trees and debris.
The District and its contractor are currently working to clear debris. This clean-up effort will not be taken care of overnight, but we want you to know that we will get through this together.
Please continue to follow the guidance provided by local officials as we get closer to putting this experience behind us and returning to a sense of normalcy in the District.
Precinct 5 Constable Sergeant Joseph Lewis has assumed command of our contract deputies as Sergeant Roberto Felix has taken a new position. Sgt. Lewis brings years of professional law enforcement experience, and we are glad to have him leading our local patrols and law enforcement efforts.
Also joining our roster of local public safety professionals is Lieutenant Lee Donovan, who has taken over as our liaison to HPD’s Westside Command.
We look forward to working with these lawmen and welcome them to the District!
The District’s Public Safety Grant Program
The Energy Corridor District is one of the safest neighborhoods in Houston, thanks to our community and law enforcement partners. However, like all major cities, we have occasional problems, and we want to help our small businesses and commercial properties protect themselves against theft, vandalism and other crimes.
The Energy Corridor is now accepting applications for our Public Safety Reimbursement Grant, which can help offset the cost of installing cameras, lights or other safety measures on your property. The application and details are available on our website, and all requests will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis through August 1, 2024.
If you stopped by the District’s eARTh Day celebration on April 21, 2024, you might have stopped to lend a few brush strokes to the community art pieces that were being produced to highlight our local wildlife.
Attendees had a chance to add their unique contribution to two canvases made from recycled doors. These two pieces were sponsored by Citgo, and on June 26, 2024, the District, Citgo, and the Houston Public Library gathered at the Kendall Library to formally unveil them to the community. The paintings have become the latest additions to the District’s growing collection of public art and can be viewed on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Kendall Library.
Last Quarter’s Public Safety Meeting: High Water Rescue
After Houston’s wet spring and a busier-than-average hurricane season brewing, Captain Justin Huddleston with the Houston Fire Department came out to share tips on High Water Rescue at our quarterly public safety gathering on June 20, 2024.
HFD has acquired newer lifted vehicles that can power through almost four feet of water to help rescue those stranded during a flood event.
Emergency Operations Committee
Following our theme of safety, the District also convened with representatives from some of our largest employers to help think through the best ways for organizations with large numbers of employees to coordinate in the event of a disaster like a hurricane, flood or freeze.
One of the wonderful benefits of having so many top-notch companies in such close proximity is the willingness of their experts to help us think through important plans. The ideas participants shared are being distilled into a set of protocols that can help keep everyone safe during extreme weather events and allow our community to recover more quickly afterward.
Last Month’s Quarterly Commercial Real Estate Meeting
Ms. Virlee Jackson with Houston METRO joined our Energy Corridor Commercial Real Estate meeting on June 27, 2024, to talk about METRO’s vanpool service. This incredible public program is designed to save people time and money by letting those who regularly travel to the same place for work have unlimited use of a shared passenger van.
If five to fifteen people agree to ride together, they can save thousands of dollars by using a shared van for their daily commute. Not only is this much cheaper than individuals driving their own cars, but it can help ease traffic congestion by removing more cars from the road.
To learn more, please see the presentation and reach out to METRO by visiting
The Woodlands Township and The Energy Corridor District have partnered to provide a commuter bus service from The Woodlands to The Energy Corridor for almost three years running.
Are you a Woodlands resident and Energy Corridor employee? If so, consider taking the bus for only $15 round-trip. Enjoy the comfort and convenience of someone else driving you through Houston traffic while you relax or catch up on work or your personal life.
