Baker Hughes Opens New Headquarters in The Energy Corridor District
Last month, Baker Hughes celebrated the grand opening of their brand-new Houston headquarters in The Energy Corridor District, inviting hundreds of people to experience the modern, flexible, collaborative and sustainable new space. To solidify the company’s commitment to the Houston community, Baker Hughes celebrated its new home with a $100,000 grant to the Coastal Prairie Conservancy (CPC) from the Baker Hughes Foundation.
This grant, the third in three years from the Foundation to support habitat restoration in the Texas Gulf Coast region, will aid the CPC in preserving coastal prairies, wetlands, farms and ranches to benefit people and wildlife in Texas. Much of these grants have gone to the preservation of the Indiangrass Preserve, a 2,800-acre public preserve that is home to more than 300 birds; 110 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles; 700 species of wildflowers and grasses; and thousands of insects and invertebrates in the greater Katy Prairie Preserve.
Baker Hughes remains committed to conserving and protecting natural resources, especially in the communities it serves. This partnership will benefit both the wildlife and the people in the Greater Houston area in addition to supporting Baker Hughes’ commitment to advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems.
The company's new headquarters is located in the Energy Center II building and is comprised of five floors where approximately 1300 employees assigned to the building. The space has an open design contributing to an innovative work environment that reflects the hybrid work approach implemented at Baker Hughes.
On October 18, McDermott employees gathered by the hundreds at corporate headquarters in Houston’s Energy Corridor to celebrate the company’s official 100th anniversary. The event included a 100 Years poster signing, group photos, a catered barbecue lunch, music, the presentation of videos dedicated to memorable company moments and countdowns to the next 100 years and remarks from senior leadership.
The event received an outpouring of positive feedback from those who attended. “This remarkable display of teamwork and selflessness is a testament to the exceptional individuals and the strong culture that defines McDermott,” Sheila Mercado, Principal Procurement Specialist for Supply Chain, said. That sense of togetherness and mutual cooperation, the One McDermott way, has helped the company reach this remarkable milestone and will continue to do so.
Globally, McDermott held more than 20 celebratory events that took place during the spring, summer and fall of this year, overseen by the committees of many countries. The Houston event at Energy Center 5 was among the last to mark the once-in-a-lifetime occasion of the centennial and was perfectly timed to occur on the company’s birthday.
Recently, we shared news of a miniature mural at I-10 and Eldridge Pkwy in the District. Now, you can check out the latest mural art in The Energy Corridor District in the underpass at I-10 and Dairy Ashford Rd!
Artist Carolina Gonzalez painted a gorgeous lightbox mural entitled Houston Circuit Board. This new mini mural joins a series of bright, colorful murals located around the District that depict energy. Houston Circuit Board is the 11th mini mutual in the District as part of UP Art Studio’s Mini Murals Houston initiative.
Mini Murals Houston was founded in 2016 by UP Art Studio, with support from the City of Houston Public Works, the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, Fresh Arts, East End Foundation and council member Larry Green, who sponsored a pilot run of 300 boxes. This project has won several awards and has been sponsored by council members, management districts, neighborhood associations, organizations, corporations, grants and other sources that have all contributed to its success.
