Outreach Center of West Houston to Host Casino Night and Poker Tournament
The Outreach Center of West Houston is hosting Casino night for its 21 Year Celebration. They will be offering a poker tournament and a wide variety of casino games on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 6 PM to 10 PM at the Houston Racquet Club.
There are numerous sponsorship and participant opportunities available for this event on their website, from individual tickets to presenting sponsorships. There are also volunteer opportunities!

AARP Foundation Offering Free Tax Preparation in the District
The April 15th tax filing deadline is almost here! Are you ready?
In cooperation with the IRS, the AARP Foundation offers free tax preparation assistance for taxpayers in The Energy Corridor District. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has convenient locations in neighborhood libraries, community centers and senior centers. In the Energy Corridor, AARP Tax-Aide will be at the Kendall Library (609 N Eldridge Pkwy) on Wednesdays from 1 PM to 5 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM through April 15.
While the program is primarily aimed at low- to middle-income taxpayers, there are no income limits. For details regarding the scope of returns that can be prepared, visit the AARP Foundation website, linked below. The website also details the documents you will need to bring with you and the scope of returns the Foundation can help prepare. AARP membership is not required, and there is not a minimum age requirement.
West Houston Assistance Ministries is offering to shred your confidential documents, receipts or other papers with personal information at its contactless SHRED Day event on April 15, 2024, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
For a suggested minimum donation of $10, WHAM will take up to six file-sized boxes and shred them in front of you, then recycle them! Additionally, your donation will help fund WHAM’s programs for the homeless and families in need, pushing them closer to getting back on their feet.
