Take 5 Concert Celebrates 5th ECHO Season, as Orchestra Continues Regaling Energy Corridor Audiences

A dream to bring live, classical music to West Houston has led to a fifth season for ECHO: The Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra, as it continues regaling Energy Corridor audiences with invigorating and accessible performances.

ECHO’s annual fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 14, will mark the accomplishment with an orchestral celebration called Take 5, featuring two gifted Houston Symphony artists performing an influential Mozart concerto – a source of inspiration for musical arrangers since Wolfgang Amadeus composed the piece in 1779.

Led by ECHO Musical Director Michael Fahey, the Energy Corridor orchestra will perform Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E-Flat major, a piece featured in more than 40 recordings, as well as the 1984 movie “Amadeus.”

Houston Symphony artists Rodica Gonzalez, violin, and Wei Jiang, viola, will join this special celebration on the Queensbury Theater stage, 12777 Queensbury Lane in CITYCENTRE.

“We are so excited to have the opportunity to perform with two Houston Symphony musicians on our Take 5 concert,” says ECHO’s Founder Sarah McDonner, who serves as executive director and development coordinator.

McDonner, who also plays flute with ECHO, launched the orchestra five seasons ago as a way to enhance appreciation and understanding of orchestral music in the Energy Corridor and West Houston.

The Take 5 tribute will also feature three more inspiring classical favorites, including Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Alexander Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia.

Musical Director and Conductor Fahey – an accomplished violinist – has won accolades as the Houston Symphony’s Educator of the Year for his work as Director of Orchestras at Stratford High School. Under Fahey’s leadership, Stratford Orchestra has performed in esteemed venues such as Chicago Symphony Hall and New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
